Three ways in which procrastination can affect university students
An essay of 1000-1200 words answering the following question. You must draw on all THREE sources specified in this handout. You must include at least 3 sources of your own. Your essay must be fully referenced (in-text and end-text) in the APA format, as per the ECU Referencing Guide.
University assignments are often quite large in scope and may require a number of weeks or even an entire semester to complete. Students need to have effective time-management strategies to make sure they meet their study deadlines with minimum stress. However, many students, for various reasons, put off tasks and assignments until the last minute. This is known as Procrastination. Hussain and Sultan (2010) have studied the reasons students procrastinate and the effect of procrastination on academic performance. McMillan and Weyers (2009) discuss some strategies for students to manage their time.
In your essay, describe two to three ways in which procrastination can affect university students. Then, based on the results of your Time Management Questionnaire (attached), describe two time-management strategies you could adopt to address your weaknesses in this area, OR, if you believe that you already have effective time management skills, describe two strategies that you currently use that you believe help you manage your time successfully.
1. Firstly, apply cognitive and critical thinking skills by reflecting on learning and by analysing case studies.
2. Secondly, demonstrate theoretical and technical knowledge of fundamental communication practices in professional and academic environment.
4. English literacy skills to transfer knowledge and also specialised skills to others, both orally and in writing, demonstrated in the production of an essay, an oral presentation, and other documentation on a given topic.
