• Texas Nurse Practitioners Association (TNP)
• Nurse-Midwives, Pediatric, Adult Gero, and also Psych Mental Health Organizations
Purpose of Assignment:
Examine local, state, and national organizations (via their websites) that will help you as a professional to grow and develop to your maximum potential (and expose you to critical issues and essential individuals in the field) as well as support the profession. In addition to discussing the key issues, the intent is to have you synthesize and critically analyze the importance of memberships in professional organizations.

1. Firstly, what are your initial thoughts about joining and participating in a professional organization for APRNs? (Before you explore the websites): Why or why not is this relevant to your new role?
2. Secondly, what are similarities and differences between the local, state, and national organizations including a) purposes/goals and their value to you; b) benefits and opportunities; c) costs (consider statistics of < 10-25% of APRNs participate in these organizations) and note the fee for student; and d) after reviewing the websites, what new insights do you have?
3. Thirdly, what are your plans to participate in professional organizations after completing this assignment? Discuss your reasons for your decision.

• Secondly, critically analyzes similarities and differences between the local, state and national organizations to include: a) purposes/goals and their value to you; b) benefits and opportunities; c) costs (consider statistics of < 10-25% of APRNs participate in these organizations) and note the cost for student versus full membership; and d) after reviewing the websites, critically reflect on new thoughts, impressions, and insights. (40 points)
• Thirdly, identifies plans to participate in professional organizations (local, state, and/or national) after completing this assignment. Clearly identifies reasons for the student’s decision/s. (30 points)
• Fourthly, utilized current APA formatting used for citing sources and for the reference page. Used no more than two pages (content) plus cover page, reference page) and is free from spelling/grammatical errors (10 points).
