Sociological perspectives

 Description You will be writing a paper that demonstrates 1) your understanding of three of the sociological perspectives we have studied in the course. and 2) your ability to apply these perspectives to contemporary social issues. Choose one of the following topics and answer the following questions in the format provided below. Your final paper should be a basic 5-paragraph essay, using a 12-point font, and double-spaced. Failure to adhere to formatting standards may result in a deduction of points from the final grade. You are required to use material from the textbook and one additional academic source. When citing your sources, you must use in-line MLA or APA format, and you must include a “Works Cited” or “References” page. TOPICS LIST: • RELIGION • EDUCATION • POLITICS • The ECONOMY • FAMILY INTRODUCTORY SECTION: 1. Identify your chosen topic, and discuss your decision. THEORETICAL SECTION (Three paragraphs): 2. STRUCTURAL FUNCTIONALISM: Describe how the topic you selected may be viewed via the structural functionalist perspective. a. Include an overview of the theory, its key focus, and how it can be applied to your topic. List a few basic questions Structural Functionalism might answer about your chosen topic. 3. SOCIAL CONFLICT: Describe how this topic may be viewed via the social conflict perspective. a. Include an overview of the theory, its key focus, and how it can be applied to your topic. List a few basic questions Conflict Theory might answer about your chosen topic. 4. SYMBOLIC INTERACTIONIST: Describe how this topic may be viewed via the symbolic interactionist perspective. a. Include an overview of the theory, its key focus, and how it can be applied to your topic. List a few basic questions Symbolic Interactionism might answer about your chosen topic. Conclusion: 5. In this section,explicitly illustrate an ability to select and use information appropriately to investigate a point of view or conclusion. Your conclusion must draw from the evidence you presented in paragraphs 2-4. a. Conclude your paper by explaining at least one advantage and disadvantage of using each of the theories to examine your topic.
