You will conduct a research project on an important event, practice, or legal case related to race-ethnicity and crime or criminal justice. You will write a paper summarizing all of your work. A;so, you may focus on the case and it’s influence of the criminal justice system or aspects of the criminal justice that could be reformed. When brainstorming good ideas, ask such criminal justice and race research questions: Is criminal justice research topic good enough in terms of relevance? Why is it important in personal terms?
What significance does research topic idea have in global importance? Is it an analysis or argumentative paper? Make sure to approach the paper as such What are popular counter opinions? Are there any similar research works available? Does topic meet all grading rubric points? Is there enough scholarly research to support your analysis? To give you an idea of “concepts”, this is just an example of topics. Do NOT use the exact same concept/issue suggestions for your paper. You could use Concepts 2 & 3 to build off upon but do NOT use the exact concepts given. I really suggest coming up with your own.

Concept Examples Concept One: African-Americans are more likely to be arrested, sentenced and receive harsh penalties than white Americans. For instance, although African-Americans on average neither consume nor sell more drugs than white Americans, they are much more likely to be arrested and sentenced on drug charges. Has the American criminal justice system reinstated a new Jim Crow as Michelle Alexander argues in a recent book? And what should be done? Should, for instance, prisons be abolish as Angela Davis argues? Notice here that the author sets the background with factual information and then poses the question that they will address.
The concept/issue is : A new Jim Crow type of system exists within the criminal justice system. The author will then use the paper to address the concept: what it is, how it is to implement, what should be done (using research to support the position). Concept Two: Racial Prejudice Among Prisoners in America For this concept, you could address the issue of white supremacy groups or any other ethnocentric group. You could specifically focus on Mass or nationwide. Concept Three: Are laws against racial discrimination always applicable to sports?
