This paper should be an opinion paper that takes a clear position for or against a policy, program, movement, perspective, etc. The overall purpose of the paper is to defend something that matters to you and is under attack by understanding the opponent’s position and reasoning. The paper should be two to three single-spaced pages and should have the following components: An introduction to the competing perspectives in the dispute, and an explanation of why this is important and to whom it is important. A statement of your opponent’s reasons for what they believe, followed by your rebuttal of why these reasons are inadequate. This will require you to research the opponent’s point of view as well as your own. DO NOT critique a “dumb caricature” of your opponent’s argument. When you present your view, look for other dimensions of the argument that your opponent failed to consider. Be sure that you conclude with some call to action. If you are right, what should the reader do? Your topic should be on something relating to global conflicts. Please do not write about abortion as that issue has been thoroughly discussed and debated already. Prepare a ppt slide deck of up to 6 slides to present to the class. Be sure to provide a sources used section at the end of the paper and cite within the body of the text.
