Chapter 14- Sleep, Dreaming, and Circadian Rhythms
Phrases like, “I’ll sleep when I die” or “sleep is overrated” are often used by individuals who may be very busy–e.g. college students. However, sleeping is necessary for adequate physical and cognitive functions. During infancy, it is essential for growth, as growth hormone (GH) is secreted when we sleep. This is why newborns sleep between 16-18 hours. When sleeping is interrupted, our lives can be significantly affected.

Per chapter 14, the hypothalamus, reticular formation, suprachiasmatic nucleus, inferior colliculi, and superior colliculi are parts of the brain involved in sleep. Please help us understand parasomnia by explaining which specific part of the brain may be involved in this potentially lethal disorder.
In 200-225 words, tell us why you selected the brain part you selected to explain parasomnia. Additionally, tell us which brain part involved in sleep (mentioned in previous paragraph) does NOT explain parasomnia.
