How aspects of argumentation theory in public affairs

Final Paper Assignment
For this assignment you are asked to conduct an analysis of how aspects of argumentation theory that have been discussed during the course are present in the world around us. The topic of your paper should have a direct connection to “public affairs”. This is the final assignment for the course and will be worth 75 points. Students should email the instructor for approval of their topic. Failure to get approval of your topic could result in you receiving a failing grade on the
assignment if you choose a topic that is inappropriate. A more specific rubric is also provided.
your final paper:

*Choose one political advertisement and explain 2 or 3 fallacies that you believe are present in that political advertisement

*Construct a claim/resolution regarding a current event and analyze that claim/resolution using the Toulmin model or the stock issues model. An example of a claim could be “The United States should reform police practices” or “The United States Congress should support Trump’s Infrastructure Plan” or “The United States should require masks be worn in public places”.

Students are welcome to choose another topic to work with as long as it as a connection to public affairs and a strong argument theory foundation from a concept we have discussed in class.

Students should email the instructor for approval of their topic. Failure to get approval of your topic could result in you receiving a failing grade on the assignment if you choose a topic that is inappropriate.

3. Write a 4 page paper that follows the assigned rubric in design. The page requirement is what is expected of written text (not including the title page or reference page, etc). An abstract is not necessary in a paper this short.
