Discussion Question:

There are many different “tools” that non-profits can utilize to increase their use of technology. Create a list of all the different technology tools that your organization (or you as an individual) utilize. What are examples of other technology tools that you have learned about? Are their opportunities to purchase tools that are different for non-profits than for-profits?

Heather’s Post:

Technology is constantly evolving and becoming more advanced and more integrated into our daily lives. Over the years I have worked for a couple different non-profit agencies which have utilized a variety of different technology programs along with an array of devices. Some of the more common technology devices I have utilized through my work experience consist of computers, cell phones, tablets, and hand scanners. All of these devices have benefits which allow me to complete my job faster and more effectively. In addition to technology devices, some of the different software programs I have utilized range from Automatic Data Processing (ADP) to SAP Concur. ADP is an “American provider of human resources management software and services” (ADP, 2020). “SAP Concur is an American SaaS company, providing travel and expense management services to businesses” (Concur, 2020). Lastly, another software program that I have learned to navigate is Paycom. “Paycom is an American online payroll and human resource technology provider” (Paycom, 2020). This program has been an effective way for employees to easily access everything they need. One technology program I have always been curious about is cloud computing. I would welcome the opportunity to be able to learn about cloud computing and the different advantages this program can offer. Businesses that are nonprofit may have more difficulty obtaining technology tools due to their financial situation. Businesses that are for-profit may have the opportunity to spend more money on technology devices and software. A for-profit organization takes in more money than they require in order to keep the business running.
