I’m studying for my Writing class and need an explanation.
One of the more challenging aspects of writing a research paper is incorporating information from appropriate references to support your own ideas and claims. Students often fall into two types of writers: those who include no information from outside sources (or include information with no in-text citations) and those who rely extensively on direct quotes. When writing your paper, it is important to find a balance between using your own voice to make your case and correctly representing the perspectives of the authors of your sources.
One suggestion given by writing centers is to use the Oreo Cookie method, or the Introduce, Cite, and Explain (ICE) method, of incorporating information into your writing. In this method, writers use their own words to introduce the direct quote, insert the direct quote, and then again use their own words to summarize or further expand on the information. In this discussion, you will practice this skill using the articles and insights from the Evaluating Insights discussion.
For your original post, include the following requirements:
- Using the Oreo Cookie, or ICE, Method, share a direct quote from one of the articles from the previous discussion about the problem of the glass ceiling and include an APA-formatted in-text citation.
- Using the same information that you quoted, create and share a paraphrase without using a direct quote and include an APA-formatted in-text citation.
- Which method of incorporating sources did you find most difficult and why? f
