This assignment asks you to discuss ethics and communication. This paper should be built from your textbook and class discussion board posts to detail what you believe are necessary for a communicator to be ethical. Based on communication literature and your own experience write a 4-5 page paper (12 pt. font double spaced) describing what kind of ethical issues are important for you in interpersonal communication, why ethics are important, differences between online and face-to-face communication regarding ethics, and how you personally strive to be an ethical communicator. This paper will require sources beyond the textbook. You are required to use 5 sources published within the last five years. Communication books and journal articles will provide the best sources of information, online sources should be avoided.
This paper will include three sections:
Introduction (2-3 paragraphs)
The introduction will establish purpose, discussion of your particular situation regarding ethics, and preview the major elements discussed in the essay.
Body (bulk of paper)
The body of this paper will discuss the ethics that are important in your life and why they are important. Provide an analysis of ethics in interpersonal communication and/or small-group communication. Why are ethics important in both types of communication and how does unethical behavior affect communication. This analysis should be informed by the sources you gather. Finally, based on literature how do you personally strive to be an ethical communicator.
Conclusion (2 paragraphs)
The conclusion draws together the major components of this paper, recaps the importance of ethical communication, and provides your final thoughts of the skills-based knowledge gained from this assignment.
