AIDS identification and health complication with root causes
1-Identify an illness, disease, and/or health complication and map its root causes. I have chosen AIDS 2- Specifically describe the historical, economic, and (geo)political structures that have contributed to the prevalence of this particular health issue. 3- What are its symptoms? 4- What communities are most at risk (age, race, gender, socio-economic class, etc)? 5-What is its geographical distribution? 6-How is this health issue created by, shaped, and/or compounded by economic inequality at local and global levels? 7-What barriers exist to accessing care? 8-What communities are most prone to adverse outcomes? 9- And, conversely, what actors are most involved in the perpetuation of this health issue? This could include social classes, races and ethnicities, genders, sexualities, a citizenry, political leaders, parties, national governments, corporations, and so on. 10-Finally, what are the potential future impacts of this health-wealth disparity in the absence of intervention or social transformation?
IMPORTANT —-This is an analytical essay with a research component: you must research a health issue you wish to examine and cite at least three credible outside sources to identify the structural causes that condition its incidence. Your essay should have a CLEAR THESIS articulated in the opening paragraphs, and the body of your analysis must present evidence supporting the conclusions at which you will arrive. You may cite course materials as well as outside epidemiological scholarship or journalism investigating the health issue you have selected. IMPORTANT— Your thesis, however, must build upon that outside scholarship with your own original argument: you may not simply summarize or reiterate someone else’s conclusions.
