A Gap in “The Men from Kabul and the Eunuchs of India: The (Not So) Simple Economics of Lending to the Poor”

– Assignment Description: The term paper for this course requires reading one of the chapters listed on the course syllabus and identifying a gap*. You will have to find a missing component in the chapter (“The Men from Kabul and the Eunuchs of India: The (Not So) Simple Economics of Lending to the Poor”) and introduce it in this paper. The term paper should follow the structure given in the section Sections. * Identifying a gap means finding what the chapter is missing to fully cover the topic discussed. For example, if the chapter covers a topic related to education, but does not mention the significance of parents investing in their children’s education, that can be ”the gap” you will discuss in the term paper – Format & Discussion: Your term paper must consist of the following: (1) an introduction providing the motivation for the topic the chapter is discussing. Please include the missing component of the chapter in this section; (2) explain your identified gap within the literature of economic development. Clearly explain the contribution of the missing component; (3) describe how the identified gap will complete the analysis of the chapter topic. Use subsections to go over the following: – 3.1 Context and environment: summarize other components covered in the chapter. – 3.2 Economic Development: tie the previous section to the course. – 3.3 The new component: explain how your new component is contributing to the topic covered in the chapter. (4) explain the feasibility along with the limitation of your proposed chapter component (is there research already available or would you have to conduct research?).
